Rock Climbing Instruction

We have designed our rock climbing classes to include plenty of instruction and plenty of fun. We will work on the development of skills and techniques which will give you the confidence to either take that first step on the rock if you have never climbed before, or help you reach new climbing heights. Whether you are a beginner wanting to give climbing a go, or have years of experience and want instruction which will take your climbing to the next level, the experienced professionals at Moab Desert Adventures will help you achieve your goals and dreams, and exceed your own expectations.

The classes outlined below can all be customized to meet your specific needs. When you make your booking, we will spend time talking to you to ascertain exactly what it is your are looking for, so we can make sure your experience with Moab Desert Adventures is not only fun but educational.

New for 2008, we are offering family climbing packages. A great adventure for all the family, where everyone can get involved. We will teach all the climbing safety skills, and belaying techniques, and there will be plenty of fun time on the rock. Go to the rates page for prices.

For the female climbers, if you would prefer to be guided by a woman, we have fully experienced female guides. All have many years of climbing at top levels under their belts and their knowledge of the area and climbing abilities can be a real motivation for aspiring female climbers. It can be a very positive experience for women to be guided by women. You can request a female guide when you make your booking.

Our rock climbing instruction takes place either on the sandstone cliffs around Moab, or, depending on the time of year, mountain areas that provide relief from summer heat and add diversity to Moab's already rich climbing offerings.

Basic Introduction and the Next Step Rock Climbing Instruction

Our Basic Introduction is for first time climbers or for those with limited experience. The main focus is having fun and spending a lot of time on the rock. You will learn the essential skills like belaying, rappelling, knot tying, climbing techniques and climbing safety.

The Next Step course is for those who have learned the basics, or a gym climber wanting to step outside. This class will improve your climbing technique and also cover anchor building, risk management, gear placement and multi pitch skills. You will spend plenty of time on the rock and the focus of the course will be determined by your personal climbing goals.

Family Climbing Trips

Climbing fun for all the family. A great experience for kids and parents, and everyone can get involved. It doesn't matter what your ability levels are, or if there is a wide range of abilities, there will be climbing fun for everyone. We will teach all the basic skills needed to be safe, and there will be plenty of time on the rock. In an area that is surrounded by acres and acres of beautiful red sandstone, now is your chance to not only experience the breathtaking beauty of it, but you can actually get to climb on it.

Rock Master Rock Climbing Instruction

• Improve your power/endurance/crack/face/multi pitch techniques.Learn mental focus/fear management/effective training/gear placement/anchor building/safety techniques
• Aid climbing/bigwall techniques/ascending and hauling systems

This advanced climbing instruction is for those who have experience on the rock and want to take their climbing to the next level. The course will focus upon those skills which will most benefit your specific climbing goals and can be customized to your individual needs. You will learn advanced techniques on some of the finest routes in the desert and work with instructors who will expand the limits of your climbing ability.

Indian Creek

This is your chance to climb at the world famous crack climbing area, Indian Creek. Literally hundreds and hundreds of cracks soar up the steep sandstone walls that rise above the beautiful valley of Indian Creek. This is a magical and unique place to climb. Unless you have a huge desert rack equipped with many camming devices of the same size, you may not be able to climb these cracks - because of their parallel nature, some cracks can use as many as 10 camming devices of the same size. Your guide will be fully equipped with such a rack, and can take you to the many sought after classics such as Super Crack, The Incredible Hand Crack and many more. For climbers operating in the 5.9 and higher grades, "The Creek" is THE place to learn to crack climb.
