Our
many years of experience in business and the behavioral sciences
guides our thought:
.
• We know that most people aspire to better themselves
(and to establish a place where they can live with integrity),
but don’t set up adequate processes to support that achievement.
.
• We know that people are almost always well intended,
but have old habits of thinking and acting that undermine their
performance, especially in their relationships with others.
.
• We know that the environment in which people work has
a huge influence on their motivation, their attitude, and their
performance. It may be a bigger predictor of success than their
personality.
.
• We know that everyone is leading all of the time. We
know that most people do not understand this, and it is our
observation that many prefer to act as followers rather than
to step up and do the heavy lifting required of a leader. We
know that most people do not understand how difficult it is
to be a leader.
.
• We know that even the “greatest” men and
women of history had some area or flaw in which they needed
serious improvement, or at the least, outside assistance to
buttress their talent.
.
• We know that power corrupts, and that the higher you
go the less accurate information you get (which tends to fuel
the corruption).
.
• We know that people get stuck in their own routines,
and they almost always know (in their heart-of-hearts) how to
break free. Usually, they need encouragement and a disciplined
path to move onward.
.
• We know that most people are afraid to be great, just
as much as they are afraid to fail.
.
• We know that change is hard, even when it is appealing.
And harder still when it is feared.
.
• We know that adults need permission, structure, and
a “team” to help them step up, break free from old
habits and make change happen.
.
• We know that anyone, if they
get the right support, the right process, and the right feedback,
can be greater than they are.
