There may be no more beautiful blend of form and function than the arch, and it would be difficult to find more arches than in the skeletons of sea urchins. In Ethereal Maze there seems an infinity of arches, extending forever with an Escher-like absence of here or there. The foreground is a growing edge, with arches yet unformed reaching out to enfold the imagination of the viewer. This image can be curiously soothing, requiring no effort to enjoy, aside from keeping one’s eyes open!
The field of view here is about 140 micrometers, or 0.14mm, so a 16” x 20” print would be magnified about 4200 times.
We decided to do what we could to emphasize the infinite in our tinting, using a gradation ranging over half the rainbow, yellow to blue-violet.
