Cinephilia
(presented by the Social Evolution Research Gang)

Cinephilia - a series of letters written in conversation between Robin and Lori.
These letters addressed both artists’ love affair with the cinema, memories of
the first movie seen in the theatre, the shared group experience of going to the
movies, effects of various ways in which they view films publicly at the cinemaplex
and privately with devices such as laptops, iPads and iPhones or televisions.
These letters were written over the course of four months, February through
May of 2012. They were then enlarged, printed and installed in conjunction with
Open Engagement in Portland OR.

Open Engagement
May
14-17, 2010
Portland, OR

During the Open Engagement conference on art and social practice, the Social Evolution Research Gang (SERG) presented The Friendship Library . This short-term library of books was housed at the Reading Room for the conference in Portland Oregon. SERG invited people to include a book in their library. The theme of the Open Engagement conference was Making Things Better, Making Things Worse and SERG situated themselves in the Making Things Better camp. We wanted the books in this library to reflect the ideas of friendship and sharing and how these concepts can make things better.

A list of all books in The Friendship Library will be available following the conference in various locations: the SERG website (www.weareserg.tumblr.com), related Open Engagement publications and future incarnations of the Friendship Library. Participants mailed a book of their choosing which was then tagged with a sticker inside to identify it was part of this project. At the end of the conference these were mailed back.
