Ojo is named for its resemblance to a popular wall hanging of the American desert southwest, the ojo de dios, or ‘eye of God’. Ironically, the original image is of a tiny creature from an oceanic ‘desert’, the Sargasso Sea! We achieved the cross-like effect in Ojo by reflecting the original image both horizontally and vertically, but the beautifully intricate textures are the work of this humble bit of marine life, a bryozoan. Place this on your wall, and encourage people to divine its meaning!
The field of view across the original image, forming the upper right quarter, is slightly less than a millimeter, so an 18” x 24” print is enlarged about 320 times.
We added only enough tint to this to give it a faint metallic appearance.
